What is the world's largest bat colony?

The next time you find yourself just outside of San Antonio, Texas make sure you visit the Bracken Bat Cave, home to the world's largest colony of bats.

The bats that inhabit the cave are Mexican Free-tailed Bats and there is an estimated 20 - 40 million of them.

Each night it takes hours for all the bats to empty the cave as they feed on about 200 tons of insects and when they return they pack the cave with over 200 bats per square foot, raising the temperature of the cave from 68°F to a batty 108°F.
