The ball was started by Frank Stoeber in 1953. In
1957, the ball weighed 5,000 pounds, stood 8 feet high, and had 1,175,180 feet
of twine on it.
Mr. Stoeber gave the ball of twine to the city in
1961.
At last record, the ball of twine was 17,793 pounds,
had a 40-foot circumference, and was over 7,627,737 feet of twine.
