When was the world's last World Hockey Association game?



The World Hockey Association was a professional hockey league that rivaled the NHL from 1972 until it merged with the NHL for the 1979-80 season.

The last WHA game ever played was the 6th game of the 1978-79 Avco Cup finals between the Winnipeg Jets and the Edmonton Oilers on May 20, 1979 at the Winnipeg Arena.

The Winnipeg Jets defeated the Edmonton Oilers 7-3 and took the series 4 games to 2, capturing their third Avco cup.

Dave Semenko of the the Edmonton Oilers scored late in the third period of game 6 recording the last goal in ever scored in the WHA.
