Alcatraz prison, commonly called 'The Rock' is located
on Alcatraz Island in the middle of San Francisco Bay , California.
Alcatraz opened in 1850 and from 1859 until 1933 served
as a military prison. In 1933 Alcatraz was changed to a federal prison until
it's closing in 1963.
The last inmate to leave Alcatraz was Frank
Wathernam who left on March 21 1963.
Alcatraz is now a popular tourist destination and a
