June 11 2004 16 students from Hayground
School, Bridgehampton, NY had some free time and some extra straws, 41,966 extra
straws to be exact.
spent the day piecing them together and when they reached their last straw the
world's longest straw measured in at 6,223 1/3 meters or 20,417 3/4 feet.
As a side note, the longest straw that could work would
be 10.3 meters or just under 33 feet as that is the farthest water can be raised
by a perfect vacuum.
