The Chicago Cubs hold not only the record for the longest MLB
drought, but the record for the longest North American sport drought.
The Chicago Cubs have not even made it to the World Series since 1945 when
they lost to the Detroit Tigers and William
"Billy Goat" Sianis
cursed them with the Curse of the Billy Goat.
As legend has it William Sianis took his goat to game 4 of the 1945 world
series. He, and his goat, even managed to get on Wrigley Field, but ushers
caught up to him and were going to throw him out. William managed to convince
them to let him and his goat stay. Later in the game Philip Knight Wrigley, the
Cubs owner, finally ejected William and his goat, for the foul odor the goat
caused. On his way out William Sianis placed a curse on the Cubs that they would
never win a pennant nor appear in another World Series at Wrigley Field again.
As we stated, the Cubs lost the 1945 World Series. To find the last time they
managed to win the World Series we have to travel way way back to 1908
when they actually managed to beat the Detroit Tigers.
