When Thierry Sabine got lost in the
desert in 1977 an idea hit him, this is a great place to hold a rally. Were sure
being lost in the desert does funny things to your mind, but regardless, a year
later, in 1978, the world's longest and surely, most famous, rally was held.
The Paris - Dakar rally is about 7,000 miles of torture on vehicles, depending
on the route taken through Africa.
In 1995 the Paris - Dakar rally began starting in different locations with
the 2006 rally set to start in Lisbon, Portugal.
