What exactly is a mile?
Well, it's a measurement of length, but what length?
Originally a mile was the distance a Roman legion could
march in 1000 paces which equaled about
4,856 feet.
Then we have the
metric mile at 1,500 meters or 4,921.26 feet.
Milestones on ancient Roman roads were about 5,000 feet
apart.
A mile is also 8
furlongs, 1609 meters or 5,278.87 feet.
Next is the Data mile measuring 6,000 feet.
The Irish mile is 6,720 feet.
The nautical mile is 6,076.12 feet.
The Dutch mile is getting pretty big at about 19,028
feet.
Next we have The German
mile at about 20,997 feet.
The Long mile is long, measuring 31496 feet.
And the winner for the world's longest mile that we
could find is in use in Norway and Sweden, called a mile
or metric mile, measuring a whopping 10 kilometers or 32,808.4 feet.
