So what was the longest mountain in the world?
Yeah, we know, it's supposed to be tallest, but if it ever falls down it will
be the longest. Anyways Mount Everest is a fascinating chunk of rock.
8,850 Meters - 29,035 Feet
Most places list the height at 29,048
feet, but in 1999 it was found to be higher.
In Nepal it is called 'Sagarmatha' meaning
'Goddess of the sky'.
Sir Edmund Hillary made the first official
ascent May 29 1953
Mount Everest rises a few millimeters each
Everest has been ascended by about 900
people of which about 150 lost their lives.
