To celebrate the Commonwealth Games in
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada in 1994 the world's longest totem pole was
raised on August 4 1994.
The totem pole was carved from a cedar tree over 500 years old. It took 11
people 3 1/2 months to complete the totem pole.
The world's longest totem pole was named the 'Spirit of Lekwammen', which means
'Land of the Winds', and stood 54.94 meters or 180 feet 3 inches in length.
The totem pole was partially dismantled on August 26 1997 due to safety
