A giant squid that could eat a boat?
There is bit of
confusion on this record as the largest of the squids live at depths of several
thousand feet and as a result are rarely seen and even more rarely caught.
The world's longest squid and also the longest
invertebrate is considered to be the
Colossal squid and based on estimates of a juvenile that was caught the Colossal
squid is estimated to reach average lengths nearing 50 feet.
The Giant squid is a close contender with a full grown
female reaching a length of 45+ feet.
There have been unconfirmed reports of Giant squid as
long as 66 feet.
