Although the Japanese battleship, the
Yamato is billed as the world's largest battleship, at 887 feet it is not the
longest.
The title of the
world's longest battleship goes to the USS New Jersey (BB-62), a part of the
Iowa-class.
The USS New
Jersey is a whopping 887.7 feet or 271 meters long.
The USS New Jersey was launched on December 07, 1942
and decommissioned on February 08, 1991. She now serves as a museum at Camden,
New Jersey.
The USS Iowa
(BB-61), also part of the Iowa-class comes in a close second at 887.6 feet,
followed by the USS Wisconsin (BB-64) at 887.2 feet.
