The longest ever NHL playoff game was played on March 24 1936 between the Detroit Red Wings  and Montreal Maroons.

Detroit won the game 1-0 when Mud Bruneteau scored at 16 minutes and 30 seconds of the 6th overtime period with a total of 16 minutes and 30 seconds of overtime played and a total game time of 176 minutes and 30 seconds.
