With it's debut as a sitcom on December 17 1989, The Simpsons are now in their 19th season and going strong. They aired their 400th episode on May 20, 2007 titled "You Kent Always Say What You Want".

The Simpsons made their television debut on the Tracy Ullman Show in April 1987.

The Simpsons is the longest running US cartoon ever, but they are far outdone by Sazae-san, a cartoon based on a comic strip written by Machiko Hasegawa that was published in 1946, which premiered in Japan on October 5, 1969 on Fuji Television and is still being shown every Sunday from 6:30 to 7:00 P.M.

Sazae-san is approaching 2,000 episodes and will surely hold the title for the world's longest cartoon for years to come.
