Thor - Norse & Germanic Mythology
Thor is known in Norse Mythology and Germanic mythology
as the God of Thunder. He was pictured as a god with a beard and red hair. He
was the oldest son of Frigg and Odin. It is believed he was one of the most
loved gods in Norse Mythology.
He may have been a god, however, he did not think
long before reacting which seemed to always have him trouble. He loved racing
across the skies of Midgard in his giant goat drawn chariot. He was loved be
many of the men since he graced them with prosperous crops. As his lightening
flashed across the skies, it was believed he was ripening the yield of all of
Thor, of course, was known for his mighty hammer (Miolnir
the Mullicrusher); however, he also possessed a belt that would increase his
strength. He had one other item that may have been his favorite, which was a
pair of iron gauntlets.
Thor had a mansion on Asgard, which was called
Thruthvanger, the Paddocks of Power. This is where his Lightening was held. In
his mansion, there were 540 rooms, which he shared with his wife, Sif. Sif was
known to be a very beautiful woman with hair created from pure gold that drifted
down across her shoulders.
When Thor was hungry, he could as much as an entire
ox and three barrels of mead for only one meal.
