Countess Dracula - Countess Erzsébet Báthory.
Nicknamed 'The Blood Countess', 'The Bloody Lady of
Čachtice' and even 'Countess Dracula' this Hungarian noblewoman used her riches
to evil ends.
She is notoriously the most infamous serial killer
in the Hungarian region though is now said to have been a vampire or witch.
By her own accounts and letters she defended under
privileged and abused women on several occasions but her sadistic nature and
tendency towards torture eventually came to light.
She and four of her maid servants were arrested and
the maid servants were put on trail for the torture and murder of dozens of
women though legend has it that the number of victims goes beyond even six
hundred and fifty.
Women were lured to her castle on the promise of
well paid jobs or were sent to her to learn courtly etiquette. Some women were
said to have been abducted.
Accusations against Erzsébet Báthory and her
accomplices ranged from torture of living as well as dead victims, mutilation of
body parts, biting flesh off body parts, starving victims and freezing victims.
She was never brought to trial but was placed under
house arrest and walled into a room in her castle where she died. Her story has
become the stuff of legend. She is now said to have been a vampire and to have
bathed in the blood of her victims to retain and preserve her youthfulness and
beauty.
