In our effort to shed some light on this we found that the odds of being struck by lightning in any given year are about 1/500,000.

Your chances of being struck and not surviving are about 1/2,500,000 so 4/5 times you will survive a lightning strike.

If you live a long healthy life your odds over the course of your life are about 1/3,000 of being hit by lightning.

Keep in mind that these numbers are based purely of statistics with no regard for the Darwin factor.

For people like you and me the odds should go down significantly as those less bright people that that put up their umbrellas and hide under the tallest tree during a lightning storm inflate the overall odds.
