Who was Charles Vane?
Charles Vane was born in England in 1680 and in 1716 he
began his pirating career, preying on English and French ships.
Vane's flagship was named the Ranger and he was based
in New Providence in the Bahamas.
Charles Vane was extremely cruel and had no respect
for the pirates code, often stealing from his own men.
Charles Vane was eventually shipwrecked on a
deserted island along with one other crew member in February 1719 and when they
were rescued several months later they were recognized and arrested.
Charles Vane was tried, found guilty and on March
29, 1720 he was hanged at Gallows Point, Port Royal, Jamaica.
