BENJAMIN HORNIGOLD
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
Who was Benjamin Hornigold?
Benjamin Hornigold is perhaps most famously known for
his mentorship to Edward Teach, or Blackbeard. Hornigold was not only a pirate
but later became a privateer, or pirate hunter.
Hornigold was a very successful pirate in his day.
After the war was over, he set sail from New Providence and was captain of a
very skilled crew. Among his crew were Edward Teach, and Samuel Bellamy, neither
of who had reached the fame that they soon would. Hornigold grew particularly
close to Teach and played a major role in shaping him into the great pirate he
would someday be. To reward Teach for his abilities and skill, he gave him a
small vessel and an entire crew that he could become captain of.
Later in 1717, Teach and Hornigold sailed together
and conquered many ships in the Caribbean and American continent. It was when
they were returning home from this trip that they conquered a ship called
“Concorde.” This ship had twenty-six guns and was Hornigold’s greatest capture
but it would also be his last one.
Hornigold left pirating to go to the Bahamas, where
Woodes Rogers had just become governor and offered pardons for Caribbean
pirates. Hornigold left Teach and the rest of his crew to go back and become a
servant. Rogers thought very highly of him as Rogers became quite a good
companion to him.
Hornigold soon became a privateer and his prime
target became Charles Vane, an especially dangerous pirate at that time who had
hung many other pirates from the Caribbean.
In 1719, Hornigold was travelling to Mexico on a
simple trading voyage. The trip turned fatal when his ship became shipwrecked on
a reef that was not close to any land. Hornigold was drowned along with the rest
of the crew on his ship.
