A chelonian is the scientific name
that is given to any reptile of the order of Chelonia, which is an ancient group
of turtles, tortoise, and terrapin that has over 200 known species.
The smallest chelonian known today is the speckled
cape or tortoise known by the scientific name of padloper Homopus signatus. This
unique Chelonian has a shell that measures between 6 to 9.6 centimeters long.
