What is the world's smallest Orchid?


The Platystele jungermannioides.

This plant has flowers that are half a millimeter (one hundredth of an inch) in diameter. The plant stands at about half a centimeter (quarter of an inch) tall.

They grow in the cloud forests of Central America, mainly in Costa Rica.

The flower can be viewed through a magnifying glass and shows flowers that are pale green with a purple lip.
