WORLD'S SMALLEST SEAHORSE
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
What is the world's smallest seahorse?
The newest pygmy seahorse recently
found in Indonesian Waters will be known as Hippocampus denise. The adults are
around 16 millimeters long, which is smaller than most people’s fingernails.
These tiny seahorses were discovered in deep corals
of the Flores Sea just off the coast of Indonesia. The name of these seahorses
was the idea of Marine biologist Sara Lourie that also found them in their
natural habitat. As she explains, "Compared with other small seahorses, they're
active little creatures.” The name Denise is derived from Dionysus, the Greek
god of wine, and means "wild or frenzied."
