WHERE THE HONEYMOON ORIGINATED
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
These days, newlywed couples leave
for their honeymoon almost right after their wedding reception. While this is
now considered a fun time for the couple to be together and de-stress from all
of the wedding planning they have been doing for several months, the original
reason for this trip was much different.
Back in the dark ages, during the time when a bride
was imprisoned and captured by her new husband instead of making a choice to
marry him, the man would escape with her shortly after the wedding and keep her
hidden somewhere in secret. The new bride and groom would stay together in
secret for twenty-eight days and drink fermented honey so that they would not
feel so awkward and uneasy around each other. The purpose of this was so that
when they were finally found, the bride would hopefully be pregnant. Another
reason why they drank the honey was because it was once thought that doing so
for twenty-eight days would give them a son within the year. This is where the
term “honeymoon” comes from.
