It seems as though all children are warned by their parents about the consequences of lying. While no one likes a liar, most parents try very hard to instill truthfulness into their children. One of the oldest wives tales says that the little white marks on your fingernails are for each of the lies have you told. Many parents would use this as an opportunity to speak to their children about telling the truth, and some gullible children actually came clean about what they had lied about!

Unfortunately for those children, they didn’t realize that this is probably nothing more than a way to get children to tell the truth. The little white marks may coincide with a lie that you told, but they are likely caused from trauma to the nail bed such as slamming your finger into a drawer or something similar. So, while it’s always best to tell the truth, the white marks on your fingernails probably aren’t there because you lied. Though, this isn’t a bad old wives tale to use on children to get them to tell the truth!
