BUTTER ON A BURN
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
I remember as a child receiving a
burn from our gas heater in the middle of winter, the very first thing my mom
did was run and get the butter and spread it all over my arm. I still remember
the pain! But, of course, she always listened to old wive's tales as did my
grandmother, my sister, and so and so forth.
The real truth about putting butter or anything
greasy such as lotion on a burn is not the thing to do. The lotion, butter, or
other greasy substances actually hold in the heat, causing the burn to become
worse. I do not really remember my burn getting worse, but it was sore for quite
a few days.
For most common burns, unless they are severe, the
best thing to do is to use a cool cloth or even the juice from an Aloe Vera
plant if you do not have any burn cream or ointment in the house. Do not put ice
on a burn however, just something a bit cool. A cool cloth or even running cool
water over a burn will reduce the heat and may even minimize the damage to the
skin.
