There is a long-lived old wives tale that says on their wedding day, the groom should not see the bride in her wedding gown until she comes down the aisle. Another version of this same old wives tale says that the groom should not even see the bride’s dress until the day of the wedding. Legend has it that if the groom sees the dress or the bride in the dress before she comes down the aisle that they will experience bad luck. Some believe that the bad luck will lead to a failure of the marriage.

While this old wives tale has been around since the beginning of time, it’s simply not true. Many happily married people will tell you that they saw one another before the “proper” time and they have not experienced bad luck and they have anything but a failed marriage. While this is a nice custom to observe, if the bride and the groom happen to see one another before it’s time to exchange their vows, chances are everything will be just fine!
