Where is the lost treasure of Nehalem Point?

Along the middle-western coast of Oregon, from Cape Perpetua to Neotsu is the Neahkahnie Mountain where treasure stories, tales, and legends abound.

One particular legend is quite sketchy but it is known that a treasure has buried at the foot of Neahkahnie Mountain. The way the treasure arrived here, the way in which it was buried, and any occurrences after the fact all are different according to who is telling the tale.

Basically, this is the tale. Nearby Cannon Beach at a location called Nehalem Point a ship run aground on the bay or possibly crashed into the rocks, or some even say that the ship just anchored off the shore. The Killamook Indians were nearby and saw the ship in the bay; they stayed back and watched as several men rowed ashore from the large ship. Among the white men was one lone black man. When they arrived to the shore they carried a black box to the base of Neahkahnie Mountain on the southwest slope. They proceeded to dig a hole and then placed the black box into the hole. The Indians watch as the white kill the black man and place him on top of the black box before covering it over and venturing off.

The Killamook Indians believed that fire god lived on Neahkahnie Mountain so they would not even think of going near the mountain to find out what the white men had buried. Who knows for sure what these men buried and what happened to them after they buried the black box.
