Where is some buried treasure in Mayport, Florida?
Mayport Florida was a dangerous place in which to live
throughout its early days, with pirates and of course, the Indian War that was
not over until 1842. There are various stories around Florida about buried
pirate treasure and Mayport has its own as well.
Judge Gavagan who was the law in the Mayport area
told a story about pirates during this time. He stated a four-masted schooner
anchored off Seminole Beach. Two men lowered a boat and rowed the boat into an
inlet, which is located close by the lighthouse that sits there today. They
rowed up the creek. A few hours later, the boat was spotted coming out of the
inlet with only one man aboard. Of course, it is believed the two men buried
treasure and one killed the other, so there would be only one that knew where
the treasure was buried. Many have searched the area, but no treasure has been
It is still believed the treasure is there, buried
somewhere along the creek up from the lighthouse.
