Where is the Nevada Prison Treasure?
Sometime in the 1800's a Wells Fargo Stagecoach was on
it's way from Virginia City to Carson City in Nevada. The cargo;
hundreds of pound of gold destined for the Carson City Mint.
But destined it
wasn't, just outside of Empire, and only a mile away from the mint in Carson
City, four bandits robbed the stagecoach and made off with jewelry and the
strongbox of gold.
A posse soon caught up with them, but not before the treasure was buried, and
a gunfight ensued. Three of the bandits were killed and the fourth, Manuel
Gonzales, was captured and sentenced to 20 years in the Nevada Territorial
Through extensive interrogation Manuel Gonzales never revealed where the loot
was buried but often bragged that he could see the spot from his cell.
Manuel was released after just eight years for good
behavior, but died soon after, and before he could reclaim the gold.
The treasure is believed to be on a small mound very close to the Nevada
State Prison and the guards still spend some days off searching for it to this
