Where is the lost treasure of Mineral Park, Arizona?

Mineral Park, Arizona was founded in 1871. Shortly afterwards it was a booming town and was home to 700 residents. It was at that time the biggest settlement in the county. On December 31, 1872, a post office was established and in just one year, Mineral Park received the title of the county seat.

Mines in the area were the biggest draw of all and helped to populate Mineral Park along with many cattle ranches. The town steadily grew and soon became known to many as a rich mining town. During the gold boom in the west many people from all over the world came to this area in search of their fortune, however, there were also bandits searching for their fortune as well.

One such story was told about five bandits. They strolled into town unlike many others and of course visited the saloon. Only these five, were not here for a shot of whiskey and to tell tales of their gold find. They robbed the saloon. They thirst for money and valuables were not satisfied with what they took from the saloon so they then robbed a stagecoach. The stagecoach had onboard a strongbox, which contained 400 pounds of gold bars, dust, and nuggets. Along with the strongbox, they stole all the valuables that the passengers were carrying. The five desperados left, but shortly after leaving the site of the stagecoach robbery, found that the strongbox was just too heavy to carry and decided to bury it along the roadside.

A posse from Mineral Park was already on their trail after the saloon robbery. The posse soon caught up with them shortly after the attack on the stagecoach. Right away bullets started flying and all five bandits were killed. The posse found the stagecoach and the passengers close to Topock, Arizona. They did search the area for the missing gold, but it was never recovered.

According to legend, the location of the stagecoach robbery was along the Yucca-Needles stage road to the west of the Yucca Stage Station.

Today, Mineral Park is on private property and they are still mining turquoise and copper. You may be able to search for the missing gold by talking with the owner and receiving his permission.
