THE LOST TREASURE OF HERMIT'S ISLAND
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
Where is the lost treasure of Hermit’s Island?
Hermit’s Island can be found in Lake Superior off the
shoreline of Wisconsin. There are many tales of treasures associated with this
unique island in the middle of the Great Lakes.
First in 1868, a man by the name of Frederick
Prentice began operating a quarry on Bass, Stockton and Hermit Islands. Prentice
had a large fortune by 1890, which ranged anywhere from thousands of dollars to
millions of dollars all according to who told you the tale. He built a house on
Hermit Island close by the quarry, which was called by locals the “Cedar Bark
Lodge”. He remained on the island and lived alone until the day of his death.
When he did pass away, the search began for his fortune. Prentice did not have a
bank account or relatives to give his money to before he died, so it is assumed
that since nothing was found in his that he must have hidden his fortune
somewhere on Hermit Island.
Another person a hermit of sorts was William Wilson
who was a rich barrel maker. He moved to Hermit Island shortly after Prentice
died. He took $90,000 with him, built a small cabin and remained there alone
until his death in 1861.It is believed he also hid his fortune on Hermit Island
in an area just northeast of his cabin.
One last person known to have been very rich when
they arrived to Hermit Island but when they left this world none of the fortune
was found is a stranger that moved into an abandoned cabin. He only left to
purchase supplies and used Mexican gold and silver coins to pay for anything he
bought. When he passed away all that was found was one sack with 44 silver
dollars. Inside an old clock a small amount of gold coins were found. Since,
there were coins hidden in the clock many believe he also hid treasure on the
island.
