What is Morgellons Disease?

If you ever meet anyone with Morgellons Disease and hear their symptoms you will believe that they need to go visit a therapist or you have just entered into the twilight zone.

The characteristics of this disease are a troubling stinging, crawling, and biting feeling along with lesions on the skin that will not heal. Now, comes the mysterious part inside these lesions fiber like or filamentous crawl out or are pulled out. The patients also complain of seed like granules and back specks on their skin.

It is believed this mysterious disease is associated with the central nervous system as all patients report difficulty with mental concentration and short memory. Along with these symptoms many of the patients are diagnosed with ADHD, ODD, mood disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, and autism. In children, it is estimated that around 65 percent have some form of psychiatric illness with 10 percent having autism spectrum disorder.

There are six major symptoms or signs of Morgellons Disease which include skin lesions that cause extreme itching sensations, the feeling of something crawling on the skin or just below the skin’s surface, extreme tiredness, cognitive difficulties such as short term memory, behavioral problems such as obsessive compulsive disorder, and fibers reported in and on the lesions.

The fibers have been described as white but under clinical review the fibers have been blue, green, red, and black that shine when viewed under ultraviolet light.
