Friar Tomas is the person accredited to bringing bananas to the Caribbean in 1516 where he planted the roots in the rich soil of the tropics.

Banana beer can be found in eastern Africa.

The banana leaf is used in South East Asia such as Americans use plastic wrap.

The largest producer of bananas is India, which grows 16.5 million in 2002, next is Brazil with 6.5 million in 2002.

Over 28 pounds of bananas are eaten by the average American every year.
